Report Writing
We wrote reports about the Garden to Table raffle draw and the weekend without power in the storm. It is tricky to keep yourself out of the news report and we have been practising not using these words:
Some of us will be reporters for our Olympic Games Day. Maybe we can write our own newspaper!
This report was written by Olivia:
When the class went to the hall Steve and Steve had a very big barrel because they were going to draw the raffle. There were lots of raffle tickets in the big barrel. Mrs Batchelor won the Toyota Yaris car.
There were first, second and third prize. The second one was a cruise that House of Travel let the winner go on for a holiday. Third prize was a lovely Weber BBQ. There were five Go Pros to win. Sophie and Amanda won one of them. Lily won one of them and Lisa won one. Two other people got the other two Go Pros. They won the Go Pros for selling the most tickets. A policeman and woman were there. They both drew two raffle tickets. Mrs Batchelor was jumping up and down with all her excitement. She was very, very, very, very, VERY happy. Mrs Foley was the top teacher out of the whole school. Mrs Foley was very, very happy because she sold the most tickets.
This report was written by Jokarvin:
In the afternoon at the Haumoana School hall Steve and Steve made a barrel for the raffle tickets. The police came to the hall. They came to choose some tickets. The prizes were a cruiseship holiday, BBQ and Toyota car. Mrs Batchelor won the Toyota car. She was the happiest teacher in the world. She was so happy her face was red. But the other two people weren't there to get their prizes so Mrs Batchelor was the only person to get her prize. Julie won a holiday on a cruise ship. Claire won the Weber BBQ from Mitre 10.

Earthquake Drill
We have been practicing our Earthquake safety procedure because it is important that it is firmly embedded in our brain how to survive in an earthquake. In order for this to happen in a real earthquake we have to practice 90 times otherwise our brain won't recognise the need to Drop, Cover and Hold like this:
So when we hear the word TURTLE we pretend it is an earthquake.

How can I help my brain learn more??
Fun Facts about the Brain for Kids
* The neurons in your brain make enough electricity to generate a low-watt light bulb.
* Your neurons are joined by tiny pathways or roads. When you do something a lot - like ride your bike - the pathways in your brain that send messages about bike riding are strengthened. This is sort of like a walking path that you walk on every day.
* Messages can fly from the nerves in your body to your brain at more than 241 km per hour. Whew!!
* Exercising can make you smarter. When you exercise, blood flow to the brain is increased. Your brain also releases hormones that can help you learn. So, get moving to get smarter.
Wow! Our brain does a lot of work!!! |
